Women fall flat in second half; lose to Delta

The women's basketball Stars dropped to 1-1 after losing to Delta College 64-57 at home on Nov. 16.

The sophomores led the team to a 19-5 start in the first quarter. Sophomore forward Chasity Potter grabbed seven of her 17 rebounds and sophomore guard Courtney Wolf scored eight of her 12 points in the first quarter.

Potter said the key to her success on the glass was her physicality.

"I see the ball; I go after it," Potter said. "They were small, so it was an advantage for me."

The second quarter was hard fought by both teams with the Stars leading 30-16 going into halftime.

After halftime, however, LCC was outscored 48-29. The Stars committed 23 fouls and had 15 turnovers in the second half.

LCC Head Coach Ervin Brunson said his the team was not prepared for the intensity of the Pioneers.

"I told the team they were going to make two runs at us, at the beginning of the second half and at the end of the game," Brunson said. "The first run they made, (Delta) never stopped. They were playing hard, tough and they just became more aggressive than we did. We weren't used to that.

"We broke down in … making good decisions with the ball and that initially took us away from what we were doing."

Freshman point guard Lindsey Crim showed her all-around talent by scoring four points, getting six rebounds, dealing out seven assists and adding four steals for LCC.

Crim said she needs to be more aggressive as a scorer moving forward.

"I needed to find myself (as an) offensive weapon; I'm more of a passer right now," Crim said. "I'm trying to find my role; when to shoot and when not to."

The Stars are scheduled to play next on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Owens CC.
