Softball takes down Kellogg with Big ending to move on

At the NJCAA District I Championships in Columbus, OH the Lansing CC Stars softball team started out on fire.  Winning their first two games of the touranment without giving up a run while defeating previously ranked Kellogg CC and current ranked Muskegon CC by a combine 9-0.  With the two wins on Wednesday and Thursday they secured a spot in the Championship game of the double elimination tournament for Friday, May 13th.  

With the Stars entering the finals from the winners bracket they would need to only win one of two games to win the tourney and head to Clinton, MS for the NJCAA DII Softball National Tournament.  The only thing standing in their way was Kellogg CC.  

In the first game the Stars couldn't close the deal and lost to Kellogg 4-3.  Allie Grys pitched all seven innings giving up 7 hits and 4 earned runs walking 4 and striking out 4.  

In the second game scoring was back and forth with the Stars taking an eventual 6-3 leading heading into the 6th inning. In the top of the 6th Kellogg's S. Snyder hit a single up the middle followed by Spry hitting a double scoring Snyder.  After Gailhouse struck out, T. Snyder tripled scoring Spry.  The scoring in the 6th ended for Kellogg with Cerven singling to right scoring T. Snyder giving the Bruins 3 runs in the top of the inning making the score 9-6 Lansing.

The Stars failed to score in the bottom of the 6th inning bringing up the bruins in the top of the 7th.  In the top of the inning Kellogg accumulated 3 runs on 4 hits with 0 errors and 2 left on base tieing the game 9-9.

In the bottom of the final inning of regulation the Stars came out swinging.  After Grys struck out swining, Madison Adams singled to right field. Grace Quiggle then flied out to the second baseman.  Chazney Balmer then singled to left field advancing to second on a throwing error and Madison Adams ended up on third base.  Rebecca Piron came to the plate with two runners on with two outs.  Piron ended the game with a walk off three run home run sending the Stars to the NJCAA Division II Softball National Tournament in Clinton, MS.
