White Out Win

White Out Win

On Monday night there was no disappointments from the crowd, the team or the coaches.  With LCC TV streaming the game live for the first time in several years and multiple departments working together to have a "White Out" game, everyone left happy.

Fans were treated to free T-shirts, with the "Star Power" theme, for the first 250 spectators to show up and a free raffle for prizes given away at halftime of the men's game setting the stage for the largest crowd for a men's baketball game in three years with over 900 in attendance.

The game has been marketed for the past weeks for support of the men's and women's teams.  With the games being the last regular season games of the year, both coaches took opportunities to thank their sophomores for the dedication to the programs.  Three sophomores were honored for the women, Mackenzie Geister, Morgan Neeley, and Nariyel Purches each playing their last game in front of a Gannon Gymnasium crowd.

The men honored sophomores Jimmy Kodet, Javon Haines, Brian Morton, Edward Smith, Cullen Smith, and Michael Johnson.  The men, excluding Kodet, have won over 50 comebined games in their two years at LCC including two Conference Championships, one District title and an 8th place finish in the 2015 National Tournament.

The Lady Stars were unable to pull out the victory losing to Muskegon 57-66.  The Stars were led by sophomore Mackenzie Geister and Freshman Chasity Potter in scoring with 16 points a piece.  Keiarra Guy paced the Stars with 5 assists and Nariyel Purches led the Stars with 8 rebounds.

The men were able to obtain a victory in electrifying fashion stretching a 10 point halftime lead to as many as 40 in the second half finalizing the score with a 115-87 victory.

The #6 ranked Stars having 6 players in double figures led by Isaiah Green's 23 points the Stars pulled ahead by going on a 20pt run in the second half taking all doubt away that they would have revenge for the earlier season loss at Muskegon which knocked the Stars out of the #1 ranking.

Green ended with a double double, his 13th of the season.  Javon Haines dished out 8 assists and scored 16 points to go along.
