Charlotte, NC
Lansing pitcher Hunter Shaw has been named the 2023 NJCAA Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Year after an incredible freshman campaign. This marks the first player ever to earn this award from the Stars Baseball program.
Shaw takes home the honor after posting an impressive 9-2 record on the season, accompanied by a 1.58 ERA, the fourth-best in the nation. The freshman helped lead the Stars to the Division II World Series, where he started one game and threw 6.0 innings with 2 runs allowed en route to a second-round victory over Frederick.
"Hunter's capacity for failure was very high when he arrived on campus, and he wanted to learn and develop badly as a person and player. He then learned to work at a new level of hard, bought into mental performance training, and excelled in the classroom, field, and community. His impact on our team was incredible, and we are excited to watch him pitch at Ohio State University next season." said head coach Steven Cutter on Shaw's efforts this season.
The sophomore hurler earned 9 wins in 11 starts this season. He posted four shut-out performances and surpassed double-digit strikeouts three times.
Shaw will continue to play at the four-year level as he gets set to compete for The Ohio State University.
