2022 NJCAA Division II Cross Country Postseason Awards

NEW ORLEANS — Postseason awards for the 2022 NJCAA Division II Cross Country season were handed out on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the conclusion of the 2022 NJCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, which were held this past weekend at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Florida.

USTFCCCA National Award Winners

These awards were voted on by member coaches following the NJCAA DII Cross Country Championships.

Men's Athlete of the Year

Yotuel Garcia -- Mesa (Ariz.) CC

Garcia, who hails from Mesa, Arizona, won the individual title at the 2022 NJCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in 25:25.4. Garcia earlier won the individual title at the Region I Cross Country Championships in 24:28.4 and took top individual honors at the Vaquero CAMPY Invitational and the Mesa College XC Jamboree.

Men's Coach of the Year

David Barney -- Paradise Valley (Ariz.) CC

Barney coached Paradise Valley (Ariz.) CC to the team title at the 2022 NJCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. Led by fourth-place finisher Gilbert Olivas, the Pumas had four top-11 finishers to score 68 points and win by 20 points. Paradise Valley also won the team title at the Region I Cross Country Championships, scoring 25 points to win by six points.

Women's Athlete of the Year

Hayley Burns -- Coconino (Ariz.) CC

Burns, who hails from Bozeman, Montana, won the individual title at the 2022 NJCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in 18:22.8. Burns earlier won the individual title at the Region I Cross Country Championships in 18:03.7. Prior to that she competed in four races this season and finished as the top JUCO runner in three of them. 

Women's Coach of the Year

Jim Robinson -- Lansing (Mich.) CC

Robinson coached Lansing (Mich.) CC to the team title at the 2022 NJCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. Led by sixth-place finisher Jana Stiffer, the Stars had six top-20 finishers to score 57 points and win by one point. Lansing also won the team title at the Region XII Cross Country Championships, scoring 17 points to win by 48 points.
