3peat!!!

3peat!!!

Going, going, going.  The theme of three would be the headliner for the Lady Stars.  With the Stars latest and third consecutive NJCAA Disttrict I Championship on Friday, May 11th, they will be heading to Clinton, MS and the NJCAA Softball World Series.

Following the Stars third straight conference championship, obtaining the top seed for the district tournament, and second straight state championship the Stars were destined to complete the trifecta by winning another bid to the national tournament.  Also during their run they would need to play Jackson College three times, beating them twice to obtain the District title and move on.

Playing their opening game on Wednesday, May 5th against Jackson, the Stars would win easily 5-0 behind the outstanding pitching of Connor Proctor, who would pitch a complete game shutout.  The bats were alive behind the hitting of Rebecca Curtis going 2 for 3 with 3RBI and a home run and Taylor Hulett who also added a solo HR for the Stars.

Upon defeating Jackson the Stars would face the Tartan Pride of Sinclair Community College from Ohio on Thursday.  This game would prove to be more challenging but eventually winning 3-1.  Connor Proctor again would be on the mound pitching for the Stars going 6 innings and giving up 1 run.  Continued hitting of Taylor Hulett going 2 for 3 as well as picking up the save replacing Proctor, and Taylor VanZytveld going 1 for 3 with a home run and 3RBI to spark the Stars to the victory.  With the win over Sinclair the Stars would advance to the Championship round coming from the winners bracket and waiting for their opponent to be determined.

In the Championship round the Stars would face the Jets of Jackson College for the second time in the tournament and weather would become a major factor.  Rain starting soon as the game began on Friday morning, they would get to the 6th inning with the Stars having a 7-5 lead when the umpires would stop play due to the field being too wet.  After a two hour weather delay and quite a bit of field maintenance play would resume.  With Taylor VanZytveld going 1 for 3 with 2RBI and a home run, Rebecca Curtis hitting 2 for 4 with 2RBI and Brooklynn Dolloff batting 2 for 3 with 2RBI it wasn't enough to hold of the Jets and the Stars would lose 9-8 forcing a final game for a bid to the national tournament.

After a quick turnover and the starting of the third and  final game against Jackson in attempts to get it completed before the inevitable weather starting again, the Stars would come out firing on all cylinders and make the outcome never be in doubt.  Gabriel Hoaglund would throw a complete game for the Stars giving up only 1 run.  The bats would continue to stay hot for Brooklynn Dolloff going 4 for 4 with 3RBI, 2 doubles, and a home run to lead the Stars.  Taylor VanZytveld would hit 1 for 3 with an RBI double and Sara Reinhardt finishing it by hitting 1 for 3 with 3RBI for the Stars 8-1 win to advance to the NJCAA DII Softball World Series in Clinton, MS.
