2023 Season Recap:

Coach Cutter once again led the Stars to another record-breaking season. Smashing records that were new and old along the way to his second College World Series appearance in as many seasons. The Stars won a program record 50 games and made it to the Final Four of the College World Series before losing in the semi-final championship game and returning to Lansing with a 3rd place trophy. Lansing finished the 2023 season with a 50-12 record, guiding an offense ranked in the top 2 in the country and a pitching staff ranked in the top 10. 

Coach Cutter's guidance led to even more player awards, and Hunter Shaw was named the prestigious NJCAA Pitcher of the Year. Shane Juday won the Dick Shilts Player of the Year and the MCCAA Western Conference Player of the Year, and Hunter Lay, Hunter Shaw, and Shane Juday all earned NJCAA All-American honors. The Stars have had eight All-Americans in their program history, five of which came in 2022 and 2023 under Cutter's direction. Lansing had four members on the NJCAA Region XII All-Region Team and ten players on the All-Conference team.

Coach Cutter now owns a career record of 94 wins and 23 losses (80%) in two seasons and collected his second regional Coach of the Year award. 

2022 Season Recap:  

Coach Cutter led the Stars to the College World Series for the 1st time since 2017. Lansing finished the season with 5th place nationally and a 44-11 record on the record-breaking season. Lansing broke many team records, including stolen bases and pitcher strikeouts. Cutter earned Conference and Regional Coach of the Year awards for his team's accomplishments. During the season, Lansing won the Eastern Conference championship and Region XII Championships and had many post-season honors, including 2 All-Americans, 6 All-Region players, 6 All-Conference players, and the MCCAA Player of the Year. Under Cutter's guidance, the Stars had nine players earn all-academic honors. Coach Cutter is recognized for having the highest winning percentage ever for a first-year coach in Lansing baseball's rich history. 

 

In January 2022, Steven Cutter was hired by the Lansing Community College Athletic Department to fill the role of Assistant Athletic Director.  He will balance the administrative duties with coaching and bring a hard-working attitude with a growth mindset to Athletic Director Greg Lattig and the entire department. 

Hiring: 

Steven Cutter was hired in August of 2021, According to Acting Athletic Director Nichole Waters. Coach Cutter is a well-rounded individual with coaching experience at all levels of baseball, Waters said. He is passionate about developing good baseball players into excellent baseball players. Through his coaching experiences, he has developed many relationships that will benefit our student-athletes who have the desire to continue playing in college at the next level. Coach Cutter expressed an understanding of the college’s efforts related to diversity and firmly believes that athletics can support and advance these initiatives, Waters said. Perhaps most importantly, he is sincerely interested in helping players be successful and experience personal growth and success in whatever way success is defined for that individual, on the field and off. He feels strongly that community involvement is important to achieve success at the highest level. He is a servant leader and a great example and mentor for our student-athletes and LCC athletics.

Cutter started his coaching career in 2010 at the youth level for Beach Little League. There, he found his true calling in life and passion for teaching life skills through the game of baseball.

In 2015, Cutter went to Spring Lake High School, where he was an Assistant Coach for the Lakers for the 2015-2017 seasons.

Cutter was named Pitching Coach for the Muskegon Clippers of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League in 2017. One year later, he would take on a dual role as General Manager and Pitching Coach of the Clippers and maintained this role through the 2021 season. Helping lead the Clippers to their first-ever playoff appearance in 2019.

In September 2018, North Muskegon High School hired Cutter to lead the program as its next Head Coach. Cutter led his teams to a 50-20 overall record in two seasons. He implemented many development programs that led to numerous records in the MHSSA all-time record books, along with helping secure the school's first West Michigan Conference and District Championships in over a decade. The 2021 team finished a stellar season by being state-ranked almost the entire season and going 30-10 on the year. Coach Cutter was named District Coach of the Year for his efforts.

In 2020, the West Michigan Whitecaps and Traverse City Pit Spitters hired Cutter as Field Manager in the Northwoods Summer Collegiate League. It was here that Cutter managed many top collegiates and current professional baseball players, including the 4th and 5th round 2020 draft picks of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Cutter also worked at Extra Innings as a lead development instructor from 2016-2021. He helped many local athletes develop themselves for college baseball. While also creating the area's first space designed entirely for pitching and hitting development through technology such as Rapsodo, Motus, Pulse, Axe, and Biomechanics software.

Coach Cutter resides in Mason, Michigan, with his wife, Breena. They have four children: Alec, Caylin, Delaney, and Emersyn.
